Danny McNutt, 74, passed away on October 3, 2024 in Oklahoma City. He was born on April 15, 1950 to Avis Vineyard McNutt and Mack McNutt of Oklahoma City. He was a graduate of John Marshall High School in 1968. He married Kerry Gideon on April 21, 1984 in Reno, Nevada. He had met Kerry at Cowboy's Bar in 1983, introduced by a mutual acquaintance.
Danny was a retired auditor for 29 years for the Gross Production Division of the Oklahoma Tax Commission. He enlisted in the army at 17, and turned 18 in Viet Nam in the Army Special Forces, then stayed in the Army Reserve for several years. He changed to the Naval Reserve and saw the world. From the middle East, to Scotland, and throughout the far East, he loved every minute of it.
Danny loved the outdoors and many hunting trips to Alaska, Canada, and South Africa. He especially enjoyed bird hunting, pheasant hunting and traveling to Argentina with his wife and friends to shoot dove. When he wasn't hunting, he was reading about it or watching it on television. When he wasn't watching outdoors shows, he was watching Westerns. He never tired of seeing the same John Wayne movies over and over again.
Danny loved a cold beer and a fine single malt Scotch. He loved traveling and especially loved spending time in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He loved the old town charm, the beachside bars and just sitting in a beach chair – as he said "contemplating his sins". He and Kerry went at least once a year, and often Danny would go to 'PV' two or three times each year.
Danny loved OKC neighborhood bars and the crowds that frequented them. He would always arrive at the same time, sit in the same seat, and order the same number of beers on any day. He knew all the bartenders and all the local patrons. He loved a fine Single Malt on the patio in the evenings at home or in his recliner where he could watch another Western.
Danny loved and adored Kerry. He was her biggest fan and urged her on in all her interests. When she started shooting a pistol, he made sure she had one in each caliber just in case there was an ammo shortage. When she said she wanted to shoot skeet, he said, Let's go to Argentina and shoot birds. He loved that she had sewing as a hobby, because she would go in another room to make something. If she interrupted his Western, he'd suggest she go in the other room and sew!
Danny was preceded in death by his mother; father; and older brother, Mack McNutt. He is survived by Kerry McNutt of the home in OKC. He especially enjoyed the lifelong friendship, Navy travels, Mexico and Argentina trips with Frank Corbett of OKC.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 8th at 2 p.m. at Mercer-Adams Chapel. Interment will be at the Wolf Cemetery in Seminole County near where Kerry grew up. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife at Outdoorsoklahoma.com.
