Darlene D. Hatcher, 81, of Gladbrook, IA, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA. Visitation will be Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2025, at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Anderson Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com. A luncheon will follow funeral services in the church fellowship hall. Internment will be at Badger Hill Cemetery in Gladbrook, IA. Darlene was born July 25, 1943, to Albert and Gretchen (Jensen) Dahms in Gladbrook, IA. She attended school in Garwin and graduated from Garwin High School in 1961. She went to work at the bean mill in Gladbrook after graduation.
Darlene was united in marriage to Paul Hatcher on January 25, 1963, at the Christian Church in Garwin. They were blessed with two daughters. They began married life in Alexandria, VA, to later return to Iowa and finally settled in Gladbrook in 1974 where she went to work as the grain merchandiser for the Beaman Cooperative. She retired after 20 years and she and Paul enjoyed many winters in Mission, TX.
Darlene loved gardening and canning and taking care of her many plants and flowers. She was always there when someone needed help and there was nothing she couldn't do. Her favorite pastime was entertaining both her family and her friends. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Darlene will be missed by her children Beth (Brett) Miller of Gladbrook, IA and Deb Friday of Sunrise Beach, MO; her foreign exchange daughter Denise Shaw; her grandchildren Justin (Anna) Miller of Gladbrook, IA and Hannah (Tanner) Thompson of Marshalltown, IA; her great-grandchildren Kinley and Dellyn Miller and Vinny and Tucker Thompon; a sister-in-law Vickie Burkhardt; and a brother-in-law Brent Jensen.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents, brother Larry Dahms and sister-in-law Julie Johannsen.
