Funeral services for Darlene LaWana (Shaffer) Wichert, 93, of Oklahoma City formerly of Fairview will be held on May 17, 2025. at 2 p.m. at the Fairview Funeral Chapel with burial following at the North Mennonite Brethren Cemetery,
Fairview, Oklahoma. Arrangements are by the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc. Visitation will be Friday, May 16, 2025 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Darlene Wichert passed away peacefully May 10, 2025. She was the daughter of Andrew Abraham and Ermal (Woolery) Shaffer. Darlene was born February 29th, 1932 at the homestead in Major County. Darlene passed at the age of 93 but according to her, she was only 23, and she would make sure you were a aware of that. She received her education at Fairview Public Schools and graduated with the FHS class of 1950. On Jan.26, 1951 Darlene was united in marriage to Frank Willard Wichert at the Fairview Nazarene Church parsonage. Together they made their home in Fairview. To this union they had a son Terry Don and daughter, Sherry Kay. In addition to being a loving mother and homemaker she was a very caring daughter to Ermal and Andy helping with their every need. She supported her husband in his occupational endeavors, which included owning and operating the Conoco gas station in Fairview for 13 years followed by the tenure of the 10 years at Waldon's also utilizing any spare time farming the Family Farm and ranching with his father-in-Law. They took over operating the Shaffer farm until retirement. Darlene assisted at the Tag Agency Business with her brother Roy Lee and wife Mary during their busy season. She also helped her niece, Carolyn Barnard run their family craft shop, The Country Townhouse. Mother always had beautiful flower beds around the house. Passer byes would always compliment her on their beauty. Darlene also loved bowling and was very good at getting high scores. She loved participating on local and travel leagues with many very close friends. She was passionate about sports, especially the OU Sooners. She and dad enjoyed their season tickets for OU Football. If you ever came by for a visit you can bet there would always be an athletic game of some sort on TV. Darlene was always supportive of the granddaughter's school activities, family picnics, and summer time fun. Her greatest love, later in life, was when the great grandkids came along. She loved their visits and enjoyed playing "Old Maid" and other games with them. She is preceded in death are her parents, husband, infant sister Willadeen, three brothers, Roy Lee and wife Mary, Jessie "Bud" and wife Geneva and Donald and wife Carolyn and a great granddaughter Aislyn Wolever. Darlene is survived by her children Son Terry and wife Becki, Daughter Sherry and husband Kenney. Granddaughters Amber (Graham) Stevens and husband Tim, Kendra (Graham) Greenlee and husband Scott, Amy (Wichert) Wolever and husband Josh, and Tara (Wichert) Logston and husband Trever. Great Grandchildren Brycen and Adelyn Stevens, Kaigen and Blakely Greenlee, Jayden and Karson Logston and Sister-in-Law Luella Wichert, and many cousins, Nieces and Nephews.
