Darryl Seward Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 7, 2025.
Darryl L. Seward, 77, of Nichols, NY, passed peacefully at home on Monday, October 6 after a two-month battle with cancer. Darryl was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Betty (Ace) Seward of Apalachin, NY. He is survived by his wife, Robin (Dukerich) Seward. Their 52 years together, and their 47 years of marriage prove that opposites can attract. Darryl is also survived by sister-in-law, Amy Worden (Tim), whose children Adam Worden (Sammantha) and Stephanie Peacock (Jimmy) became the joy of Darryl and Robin's lives. Great-nephew and great-niece, Myles and Mae Elizabeth Worden, only added to that great joy. Additionally, he is survived by "sister"-in-law, Ellen "Suzy" Haskell Anderson and her three sons, Mike, Matt and Scott.
Darryl graduated from Owego Free Academy in the Class of 1965. He received his B.S. in Business Administration from Pennsylvania Military College (currently Widener University) in 1969. His 33-year career began in IBM Owego, which became Loral, and he then retired from Lockheed Martin.
Darryl's roots in Pennsylvania kept his connection to his parents' families. Many of his cousins still refer to him as their "handsome cousin from New York". This was a very special bond for Darryl.
Darryl was happiest spending time at his country home in his yard, puttering in the big barn, relaxing on his porch, and hunting in his back woods. Fall was his favorite time of year, because it meant hunting and Thanksgiving were approaching. Over the years no matter what season, he often had a treasured canine buddy at his side. Darryl loved and excelled at playing golf, and replaying all those zany escapades brought him so much joy.
Everyone who met Darryl had great respect for his unique quiet wisdom and his ability to say so much with so few words. Good friends often became family, the siblings that Darryl missed having as an only child. His lifetime membership in the Sons of the American Legion came after decades of camaraderie at The Legion. Darryl will be missed at the Friday afternoon VFW meetings, where the "problems of the world" are resolved.
Those who knew and loved Darryl will not be surprised that there will be no services. The "family" will plan a private celebration for a future time.

Yesterday

Dear Robin, I wanted to pass along my heartfelt condolences regarding Darryl´s passing. I remember how touched Dad was that he went to PMC for college. I have 4 words to describe Darryl, "Still waters run deep". Our family was so touched by how you both showed up at the church following Dad´s passing. I know Mom, in particular, was deeply moved by it. You were a wonderful couple and I pray God guides you through this difficult time. Love, Michael R Ninnie
