Darryl Arnold Yoblick, 78, of Edison, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Darryl was born in Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Lillian Blinkoff and Louis Yoblick. He was educated in the public schools in Northeast Philadelphia and graduated high school in 1962. Darryl attended Johns Hopkins University and received a bachelor's degree in Human Factors. While at Hopkins, his professor, Alphonse Chapanis, the founding father of the science that eventually became known as ergonomics, inspired Darryl to pursue a career in Human Factors Engineering. Following his graduation, Darryl attended Tufts University, where he received his master's degree in Engineering. He then attended the University at Buffalo (SUNY), where he earned his PhD in Industrial Psychology. Darryl studied Facial Recognition, now a widely used technology to identify or confirm an individual's identity using facial characteristics.
Darryl later moved to New Jersey where he met and married his first wife, Mozelle. They had two daughters, Sally and Nicole. Darryl later met and married his second wife, Judith, who brought her two daughters, Lisa and Laurie, into the family. Darryl and Judy were married for 35 years.
Darryl spent his lengthy and successful career working for Bell Laboratories, AT&T, NCR, and Telcordia. He also managed his own business for many years, consulting for various human-computer related projects. Darryl was a member of the Human Factors Society and was always active with the various alumni associations at the schools that he attended. He was also a proud and active member of Congregation Beth El in Edison.
Darryl's family was his greatest joy in life; his hobbies were vast and included coin collecting, stamp collecting, photography, and caring for his 55-gallon fish tank. Darryl loved tinkering with spare parts and could fix nearly anything, or make something out of nothing. He spent his retirement building and then donating computers to charitable organizations.
Darryl is survived by his wife Judith, of Edison, NJ; his two daughters, Sally Weisbrot (Brian) and Nicole Yoblick; two step-daughters, Lisa Reardon (James) and Laurie Brickman (Mark); two grandchildren, Joshua and Neve; two step-grandchildren, Jared and Cameron; along with his sister, Barbara Lipton, and nieces Wendy Whitman-Orlin (Jeff), Aimee Whitman, and nephew, Brent Whitman (Doug). The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a gift in Darryl's memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate or Congregation Beth El in Edison, New Jersey.
