WALKERTON – David J. Allen of Walkerton passed away peacefully with family around him on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka following a long fight with cancer. He was born on March 28, 1953 in Ft. Wayne to Earl Johnson and Delores (Allen) DeFreeze, and was 71-year-old at the time of his death. David was raised by his adopted mother Alice Allen.
He lived in Walkerton for the last 32 years. Lived in Corunna, IN as a child. Last 16 years with his life partner, Candy Boylan. Dave wore many hats in his life, and most will remember him as being a "Classic Car Guy," who would buy/sell/repair/and restore classic cars. His talents with cars included being able to tell the make and model from just seeing a taillight or other small area of a car. He was a music enthusiast enjoying most all types. He loved helping others, mowing or plowing or fixing or just brainstorming the problem at hand. He helped anyone he could. He was an amazing mechanic who could fix most anything. He loved logging with his brothers at their logging business. David loved to travel. He traveled across the USA. He always had to drive and trips at the spur of the moment. He enjoyed lifting weights top lift ws 955lbs. He was a member of the Nazarene Church of Helmer. He sang in the church while his Mother played the piano. He was a collector of many things, magnets he bribed from anyone traveling, or to decorate his man cave. He was such an old soul. We will miss his laughter and those jokes.
David is survived by his life partner Candy Boylan; three children David Allen Jr., Kelly Mishler, and Renee Allen; his birth mother Delores DeFreeze; three grandchildren Camden, Stephanie, and McKayla; two brothers Jim Allen and Van Allen; many nieces and nephews; two stepchildren Ivana Boylan and Cammie Boylan and Sue Domaska; three step grandchildren Sgt. Benajah Lee Boylan, Connor Boylan, and Lylith Boylan and Amber Domaska and Jon Domaska; and one half-sister Ruth Nielson. He is preceded in death by his father Earl Johnson; his adopted mother Alice Allen: his wife Cheryl Clawson; life partner Rae Morris; one stepson G. Benajah Boylan; one brother Harry Allen and one nephew Danny Crist.
There will be a Celebration of Life Gathering from 11:00am Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the Walkerton Community Church (formerly the Walkerton United Methodist Church 1001 Georgia ST., Walkerton, IN 46574). A Memorial Service will be held at Noon EDT. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in David's memory to the following GoFundMe page to assist with final expenses https://gofund.me/461a2a57. Luncheon to be at church after services.

I remember a Thanksgiving at my house back around 2007/2008 when Uncle David, my Mother (Ruth), Louie DeFreeze, my Grandmother (Delores) & my bothers Danny & Jerry were all together to celebrate. I have fond memories of a peaceful day full of love & Uncle David's Jokes. It was a rare time when we were all together and enjoying each other's company.
