David Lee Arnold, 78, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Medical City Denton, in Denton, Texas, following a brief illness.
David was born on January 21, 1944, to parents Ivan Lee Arnold and Mildred Peak Arnold in the very small town of Duff, Indiana, located in Dubois County. His childhood had many wonderful memories of time with his grandparents on their farm, playing with cousins, and having fun. Growing up, David enjoyed several extra-curricular activities and was on the tennis team at New Albany High School.
David's adult life began as a radio operator in the Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. While he was in the service, he was introduced to Linda Tipple. They were married in 1963. David and Linda had four daughters: Amanda, Deborah, Angela, and Abigail. The family had many adventures, living in several states across the country, as David pursued a number of different career paths, including sales, bookkeeping, information technology, and ministry. Eventually, David and Linda found themselves back in the Louisville, Kentucky area. After 47 years of marriage, Linda passed away in 2011.
David spent some time alone before meeting his wife, Deborah. He married Deborah in 2014, and Deborah's adult sons, David and Jonathan joined the family. David and Deborah rejoiced in retired life, including playing backgammon, ministering to people, and writing their book, Kingdom Come – History and Hope. They moved to Texas in January of 2022.
He was known as a man of God, who would stop what he was doing, anytime, anywhere, and minister to someone in need. And, though faith and family were at the forefront of his life and legacy, he was also known for his rich gift of storytelling and sense of humor. He will be missed.
David Arnold is preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Cecilia Tipple Arnold; his mother, Mildred Louise Peak Berry; and his brother, John Gregory Sands. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Lea Holmes Arnold; his daughters, Amanda (Todd) Padgett, Deborah Wallace, Angela (Robert) Caudill, and Abigail DeVary; and his sons, David Cooper, and Jonathan Cooper. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lauren Padgett, Emily (Joseph) Kalouch, John (Vivianne) Wallace, Todd Andrew Padgett, Samuel Wallace, William Wallace, Hannah DeVary, and Jeremiah Wallace, and great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Padgett, and Alanna Blythe.
Following cremation, there will be a private family gathering with David's children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his chosen charity:
