David Carlyle Beam, age 91, of Cherryville, passed away November 2, 2025, at Frye Medical Center. He was born May 26, 1934, in Gaston County, to the late Claude Clifton and Sarah Mabel Farnsworth Beam.

David was a longtime member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Within the church, he was actively involved with the NC Lutheran Men in Mission and was the former Treasurer and President of the Home Mission Foundation. He had a passion and dedication to the Lord, and his church. David was also the former Chairman of Gaston County Commissioners, a member of the YMCA, a former CEO of Cherryville Federal Bank, and served on the Board of HomeTrust Bank. He received many awards including the FFA American Farmer Degree and Cherryville Citizen of the Year in 2017. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, politics, and history. He loved to travel, and spend time with his wife, Jeanne, on their countless adventures. David loved his family more than anything else, especially his granddaughters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Claude Kermit Beam; and sister, Mary Julia Beam Nail.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 65 years, Jeanne Plonk Beam; daughter, Shannon Beam Morris (Drew); son, David Marion Beam II; and grandchildren, Audrey Ellen Morris Mehl (Nathan), Sarah Elizabeth Morris, and Ella Mintz Beam.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, at the church in the Fellowship Hall.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, with Minister Brad Alexander officiating. His family will also receive friends from 2:00 PM until 2:45 PM, prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church – 1203 St. Mark’s Church Rd., Cherryville, NC 28021 or to NC Lutheran Men in Mission – 1988 Lutheran Synod Dr. Salisbury, NC 28144.
