Longtime Love of 21 years to Brenda Long; beloved father to Sasha (Michael) Pefferman, Matthew (Julia) Bochman, Shannon (Cristopher) Williams; Grandpa and Pappy to Emerson, Elliott, Hogan, Henri, Elise, Thomas, Evelyn, Nickolas, Tanner, Wyatt, Abby, and Landon.
David was preceded in his passing by his parents, Linne and Ethel (Effie), his sister Dotsie (1930), and his brothers Edward (1998) and Philip (2022).
Dave was born on August 8, 1949 in Plum Boro, PA. He grew up and lived for most of his life in Logans Ferry in the house his grandfather built in 1906. As a young man, he enlisted in the Navy, serving as an Aviation Ordnanceman in Virginia Beach and White Sands before cruising the world on the USS John F. Kennedy. He then spent most of his working years in the Pittsburgh steel industry, retiring from Allegheny Ludlum in 2011.
Dave was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and spent many a Sunday cheering them on or cursing at the TV, as the situation demanded. He was also an avid outdoorsman, regularly hunting for whitetail deer, participating in black powder shoots, fishing from a dock on Chautauqua Lake, puttering around in his oversized yard, and generally appreciating nature (minus the grass cutting and leaf raking). In his later years, he enjoyed traveling, with trips to Hawaii and Alaska, among his favorites. Throughout his life, Dave was a music fan, discovering Led Zeppelin when he was in the Navy, playing Octopus' Garden on vinyl for his kids, and listening to the blues. He was the coolest guy and his family will miss him tremendously.
Friends received, Wednesday, 10:00 am-12:30 pm at Soxman Funeral Homes, Ltd./Roth Chapel,7450 Saltsburg Road (at Universal Road) Penn Hills, where a Service will be held, Wednesday, 12:30 pm. Interment in Plum Creek Cemetery.
