David Burns Obituary
David L. Burns, of Plymouth, MA, passed away peacefully on June 28th, 2024. Born in Cambridge, MA, Dave moved to Milton, MA, during his childhood and eventually settled there, raising his family in the house he grew up in.
Dave is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia (Fitz) Burns. Dave and Pat were childhood sweethearts, having met at the tender age of 15, and they shared an incredible 57 years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Dave leaves behind their four children: Michelle Flynn and her husband Tim of Duxbury, MA; I Patricia Ferretti and her husband Bill of Raynham, MA; David Burns and his wife Nicole of Abington, MA; and Timothy Burns and his wife Katie of Quincy, MA. He was the proud grandfather of Jack, Patrick, and Sam Flynn; Zachary and Liam Ferretti; Declan and Sydney Burns; and Sean, Emily, and Maggie Burns.
Predeceased by his beloved father, David F. Burns, and his sister, Margaret Silvestri, Dave shared a close bond with them throughout his life. He cherished the times spent with his father and sister, who were a significant part of his life. Margaret's daughter, Julie Silvestri, Dave's niece, held a special place in his heart, continuing the family legacy of love and connection.
Dave leaves behind a legacy of dedication, hard work, and joy. A graduate of Milton High School, Dave served honorably in the United States Air Force. He then embarked on a long and successful career with Verizon, where he worked for over 35 years and was known for his exceptional work ethic.
In retirement, Dave and Pat embraced their love for travel, exploring the US on a cross-country trip, cruising through Alaska, and visiting the scenic landscapes of Scotland. Dave was also an avid golfer, frequently participating in and winning local tournaments.
Dave was a man full of life, known for his infectious laugh and his striking deep blue eyes. He cherished every moment spent with his family and grandchildren, always bringing joy and warmth to those around him.
David L. Burns will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to family and friends will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Visiting hours will be at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home (326 Granite Ave, Milton) on Wednesday, July 3rd from 8:30 to 10:00 am. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Agatha Church in Milton on Wednesday, July 3rd, at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Milton Cemetery.
Rest in peace, David. Your laughter and love will echo in our hearts forever.

Dave Burns was a star at Great Island, known for his warm humor and willingness to give a hand to anyone who needed his help. In our early years at Great Island, Shirley Heath and I hired Dave for some specialty painting in our house. Shirley and I were headed on a three month trip, and we were anxious about leaving the house in the hands of our relatively new neighbor. Dave was such a comfort and assured us that all our furniture and art work, maps, wall hangings were in good hands. He did a great job on the painting, and he remained a wonderful neighbor for the rest of his life. Pat surely knows her husband was a treasure, and I hope she knows that her friends and neighbors will continue to remember her and Dave´s remarkable years together.

Working with Pat for many years I was very lucky to get to know Dave. Dave was so friendly, and had such a great sense of humor. He was an excellent golfer and we loved to share golf stories . He always entertained the teachers at Magic Years when he came to visit Mrs. Burns. We will miss Dave and send our love to the Burns family

I went to Milton High School with Dave, and we both graduated the same year. When I first started with NET, I worked in the Harrison CO. After many years in Harrison, I took a bid to I&R at the Quincy Garage. On my first day in Quincy, I was assigned to ride with Dave and "learn the ropes". I hadn't seen Dave in years, and he turned out to be a great Instructor. I spent many good years in Quincy, and Dave and I worked together many times on "two man jobs". Dave was a great guy.

While growing up Dave was my good and devoted friend. I first met him in the fifth grade when he moved to Milton with his Dad and sister to live with his Aunt. While I have so many memories of time with Dave, I most remember playing endless baseball games, swimming in the Quincy quarries, going to the Boston College Friday night dances, playing golf at Ponkapoag GC and co-captaining the Milton High soccer team our senior year. In so many ways Dave brought spirit and fun to my life and for that I am forever grateful. Rest in peace, my friend. Fran Finizio
