David Carpenter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heald Funeral Home - Saint Albans on May 10, 2025.
St. Albans, Vermont – On May 5, 2025, Dave Carpenter died peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Watertown, New York on February 13, 1939, the son of Lawrence and Edith Carpenter. He had a happy childhood there with his older brother, Richard (Dick). Dave spent his summers at the cottage that the family built by hand in Dexter, NY on Lake Ontario. After graduating from Watertown High School in 1956 Dave enlisted in the Navy. He served active duty for four years in Turkey and Germany. Dave then worked for the FBI in New York City as a communication and electronic technician charged with installing communication platforms in dignitary transport limousines. While at work there, he met his future wife, Judith Ann Ramsey.
Judy and Dave were married on January 29, 1966. The new couple relocated to Oxnard, CA then moved to their forever home in Georgia, VT in 1970 where they raised their three sons.
Dave worked as a telephone lineman for thirty years and enjoyed meeting every one of his customers. After retiring from lineman work, he enjoyed working many positions, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol at the Highgate, VT station on the Canadian border, IBM, Georgia Elementary School, and landscaping.
During their lifetime, Judy and Dave enjoyed many summers at the family cottage on Lake Ontario. They spent time with friends and family boating and fishing.
Dave enjoyed fishing, however, there were very few fish that feared him. He also enjoyed hunting and, along with his oldest son, Dan, ventured a few times out to Wyoming to hunt antelope.
Dave and Judy were blessed to have celebrated 58 years of marriage. A beautiful life full of love with their three sons, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Dave is survived by his sons Daniel (Tracey) Carpenter of Glastonbury, CT, Brian Carpenter of Sheffield, MA, and Ross (Molly) Carpenter of Colchester, VT. His five grandchildren, Jessica (husband Julian) Rosner, Peter, Eileen, James, Henry Carpenter, and great-grandchild, Cohen Rosner and brother Dick Carpenter of Annapolis, Maryland.
Dave was a wonderful grandfather and friend who will be missed by all that knew him.
The family extends their sincerest gratitude to the Saint Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center staff for their superior care and compassion during Dave's time there.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dave's memory may be made to Age Well, 875 Roosevelt Highway ~ Suite 210, Colchester, Vermont 05446. (www.agewellvt.org)

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad today. He was such a sweet person and always made me feel so welcome in his home. I was a close friend to Judy and got to know Dave in his later years. They loved their summers so much at camp which I visited one summer and could understand why, so peaceful and homey. They both will be missed so much. Sending love and prayers to your whole beautiful family.
