David Wayne DeGrouchy, age 71, a resident of the Maryland area for 71 years, passed peacefully with his family on August 17, 2025. He was born in Washington, D.C., on June 18, 1954.
In 1983, Dave began his career at the Washington Post as a pressman; he was also an accomplished stone mason. Dave was an active member of the Knights of Columbus in College Park, MD.
His hobbies included golf, bingo, softball, boating, eating crabs, drinking his favorite drink, a Bloody Mary, cornhole, horseshoes, yardwork, and most essential, spending time with family and friends.
Dave was a tireless, energetic, giving, loving, and caring person whose optimism and love for life never waned.
Dave is survived by his wife of 28 years, Laura DeGrouchy; his children, Kimberly (Billy) Lewis of Pasadena, MD, Alexandra (Jacob) DeGrouchy of NY,NY, Stella Marie of Bowie, MD; his grandchildren Hailey Lewis of Pasadena, MD, Steven Lewis of Pasadena, MD; his siblings, Ronnie (Sharon), of Selbyville, DE, Theresa (Danny) Gatewood of Edgewater, MD, Kenny (Carla) of Temecula, CA, William (Susan) of Monrovia, MD, Trista (Scott) Barbour Neff of Crystal Beach, FL and Kellie (Bill) Barbour Wilkinson of Stevensville, MD; his former wife, Mary Clements of Greenbelt, MD; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isabel and Jerry DeGrouchy.
Friends are invited to celebrate Dave's life on Saturday, August 23 from 1 PM until a memorial service begins at 2 PM at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road Edgewater, MD 21037. Please wear colorful clothing so we can celebrate Dave in the manner that he celebrated life every day. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that you kindly make a donation in Dave's name to the Children's National Hospital Foundation.
The memorial service will be livestreamed for those that cannot attend in person. The link will be available here on this page before the service begins.

I worked with Dave for many years at The Washington Post. He was a good man, easy to be with, happy and a dedicated worker. It´s a sad day that we lost him. Dave will be missed. God bless you all.
