David Doyle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sweet's Funeral Home on Dec. 7, 2025.
David Doyle, 82, a lifelong resident of Staatsburg and Hyde Park, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 5, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on June 28, 1943, in Rhinebeck, David was the son of the late Walter and Florence "Fawney" A'Brial Doyle. He attended the former Staatsburg Union Free School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps, 3rd Tank Battalion, during the Vietnam War. He remained devoted to his fellow veterans as a member of Rhinebeck American Legion Post #429.
David dedicated nearly 30 years of his career to New York Telephone, later NYNEX and Verizon, where he held managerial roles until his retirement in the mid-1990s.
Mr. Doyle was an avid walker who enjoyed walking around his beloved Staatsburg. When not walking, he could often be found on his front porch, getting some "porch time". His love of sports was unmatched-he played softball in his younger years for Staatsburg's former Cardinal Inn in the Hyde Park Softball League and later found great joy in golf. In his retirement, he even followed his brothers, Reggie and Dick, and worked at Dinsmore Golf Course in Staatsburg. David was also a co-founder and member of the former Dinsmore Golf Club and Monday night Dinsmore Golf League.
David's loyalty as a fan was equally spirited. He cheered for the Dallas Cowboys since their inception, rooted for the Boston Red Sox, and delighted in supporting any team playing against the New York Yankees.
He is survived by his son, David D. Doyle of Rhinebeck; daughter, Jennifer R. Doyle and her husband, Kevin Hart, of Hyde Park; and grandson, Cameron David Hart-born on his grandfather's birthday. Also surviving are his sisters, Helen Strieder of Red Hook, Beverly McCormick of Hyde Park, and Patricia Doyle of Staatsburg; former wife, Connie Doyle of Hyde Park; along with many nieces, nephews, and their families.
In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his siblings, Chloe Elmendorf, Walter Doyle Sr., and Reginald, Edward, and Richard Doyle.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial calling hours will be held from 10 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, December 13th, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park. A prayer service will follow at 1 PM.
The Doyle family extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated caregivers whose compassion and kindness brought comfort during David's final days, especially Claudette, Hudson Valley Hospice, and "Julie".
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org), or to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge NYC (https://raiseyourway.donordrive.com/hopelodgenyc/donate).
