Elizabeth (known to many as Olivia, amongst many other affectionate names) was born on the 10th June, 1979 at the Edith Oppermann hospital in Mbare Harare, a healthy 8lbs and four ounces, and soon developed into a bubbly cuddly toddler who started walking at eight months and began speaking at one year, her mother languages of Shona and English, with relative ease. She brought immense joy to our new family and was well loved by her elder siblings and as the years flew by was soon at nursery school showing signs of brilliance and intelligence, which made us gasp with wonder. By her fifth birthday, she was a prim and proper little miss, ready to enter primary school, by which time her little sister Monique came wriggling and crawling into this world. The years flew by, and she graduated into secondary school, blossoming into a beautiful young lady with brains to boot and showing multiple talents in poetry, needlework drama and art and design. She excelled in all her classes and gained excellent 'O' Level results in 1994, and then 'M' and 'A' levels where she achieved outstanding results in the following years of 1995 and 1996 respectively. Throughout her time at school, she displayed maturity and wisdom, gaining friends who often gathered around her, helping to shape and develop her into a sociable young woman.
In 1999, she moved to the UK, and her family joined her in 2000 and 2001 when they were reunited. She had her first child, Talitha, in 2001 with Charles Fasanya. She then emigrated to the USA in 2004 after getting engaged to Dennis Slaughter, and they settled in the Hudson Valley, NY. They were married in 2004 and had another beautiful daughter, Karis, in 2006.
She founded the brand Denina, a successful business, in 2013 with sales of innovative cosmetic care products. Since then, she continued to expand and pursue various passions and interests throughout her life, including ministry, music, writing, law, academia, travel, and addiction counseling. She leaves behind her two beautiful and brilliant children, Talitha and Karis.
Olivia was a wonderful person who touched our lives in multiple ways, and throughout her ups and downs in life, gained many friendships and pursued a life of working for the Lord - she wrote an amazing book on faith, available on Amazon. She leaves us with unforgettable memories and inspirational love.
She is survived by her father and mother, Phillip and Maria Hussey; her sister Monique; her brothers Evans, George and William; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
We pray and hope that you will always keep her in your prayers and memories.
