David Drohan Obituary

David John Drohan

May 13, 1965 - Sept. 10, 2025

David John Drohan, 60, of Barrington, Illinois and Oro Valley, Arizona, passed away on September 10, 2025.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Odenkirk; his parents, David and Denise Drohan; his sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Christopher Wagner; and his nephews, Christopher and John Wagner. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Bella. He was preceded in death by his sister, Treacy Drohan; and his nephew, Timothy Wagner.

Dave was born in Yonkers, NY, attended Sacred Heart grade school and moved to Barrington in 1977. He graduated from Barrington High School and later earned his degree from Villanova University. He spent much of his professional life in sales.

Dave lived life with an undeniable passion--especially when it came to sports and motorcycles. He was an avid participant in adult hockey, football, softball leagues, and pickup basketball games. But his greatest joy came from riding and working on dirt bikes and motorcycles, a lifelong love that brought him both adventure and peace.

He will be remembered for his warm heart, sharp wit, and loyal friendships. Dave had a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life and maintained friendships that spanned decades. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A wake will be held on Thursday, September 18, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home in Barrington.

A funeral mass will take place at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 19, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Barrington, followed by burial.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave's memory to SkyRise Chicago 2025 Benefiting Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, or Project Hope at St. Anne Catholic Church.

How does one sum up Dave without a giggle. My memories of Dave are all hilarious and I am certain he would want us to smile when we remember him. I wish I had seen him more recently just to hear his wit and add another reason to giggle.

Ah Davey....he had the Drohan gift of gab - an Irishman through and through. No one could tell a story quite like Davey (except perhaps his dad...after all, the branch doesn't fall far from the tree). Embellishment was a key part to all the stories. Half the time you were laughing, you didn't even know why. It was all in the telling. Beyond that, Davey was a kind and compassionate man who would do anything for his family and friends. My kids were the 'runts' of our extended family group - but Davey always included them and never made them feel less important. He never met a sport he didn't like... or a person, for that matter. Kind of an Irish Will Rogers. Davey will be missed but his legacy, passion and humor will love on in his stories. So much love to his family.

As you might imagine, Dave had a tight circle of friends at Villanova, and I was fortunate to be one of them. He was incredibly generous, funny and you knew that he would do anything for you. He was the glue that kept our group of about 15 guys all these years. The stories we have are legendary. From fraternity parties to pick up basketball they tell the story of a great friend and person. We love you Dave!

I played hockey with Dave for decades and will miss his great sense of humor, attitude, and his defensive play in front of my net.
