(David's last words)
David Enslee, 49, of Avenel N.J. passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, after a 2 ½ year battle with colon cancer. He was surrounded by his beloved wife of nearly 22 years, Cheryl and his loyal feline companions, Scooter & Sibyl, and family.
David predeceased by his mother Eugenie Enslee, and a series of beloved felines Bobbo, Izzy & Thumbelina.
David attended Newark Academy in Livingston, NJ & received his bachelor's at Middlebury College in VT. After graduation, his career began at Topps where he is known as "The Legend" and eventually Fanatics. Among one of his many accomplishments, he authored & published the novel, Driver In. However, no professional role was more important than that he proudly served as "Uncle" to his three Nephews (Hunter James, Julian, and Enzo) and three nieces (Kylie, June, and Charlotte) beginning in 2004!
David will be forever grateful to his father George for trips to baseball games at Yankee & Shea Stadiums, and for him getting through college debt free. David was proud of the accomplishments of his sister Amelia, growing up to be an architect and a devoted mother. David beamed with pride as he and his wife embarked on the long journey that led to her becoming Dr. Cheryl Enslee.
When David proposed to Cheryl in 2001, he was joyfully embraced by the Piersall family, making it a truly delightful experience. He enjoyed an assortment of adventures with his father-in-law Stephen and mother-in-law Lois (Honey) and his sister-in-law Donna Jean; to whom he owes a particularly fresh debt of gratitude along with her husband, Jason.
Finally, David is beyond grateful to the Emr family of Mountain Lakes, NJ. They embraced one another as honorary family members, and among other gifts, they provided him with a front-row seat to the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse in Upstate NY. Christopher, Carolyn, Jimmy, Stephanie, Ellen, & Steve- you are the type of friends and family that everyone should have at least once in their lifetime.
During their time together, which they wish had been much longer, David and Cheryl shared countless adventures, which were enhanced by David's game show winnings, on Jeopardy & Millionaire.
They both took pleasure in travel, starting at the top of the list with a trip to Hawai'i in 2004. Their visit included sailing with dolphins & whales, and snorkeling around the Big Island, Oahu and Maui. So inspired, they enjoyed several trips to: Italy, Iceland, Dominican Republic, Aruba, Costa Rica, Honduras. They even unknowingly stayed at the same resort in Cancun twice, 11 years apart! But even a simple beach trip together to Island Beach Park or Wildwood NJ, was special because they had one another.
Whether they were working in visits to National Parks: Yosemite, Sequoia, Death Valley, Painted Desert, or the Grand Canyon or an Odyssey through Shop Rite or Target the most important aspect of the journey was the travel partner.
David & Cheryl were a bit of a mismatched couple at first glance, but they made sense rather quickly. He was the Bert to her Ernie, and everything lined up after that.
