David Todd Evans was called home to his Heavenly Father on May 18, 2024, after a rapid neurological decline. He passed surrounded by his family and loving healthcare providers.
David Todd Evans was born April 23, 1961. He was the 6th child of Richard O and Beverly F Evans. As a child, Todd was often seen playing in the dirt piles of their growing neighborhood and biking with his friends. He loved camping and boating with his father and they had many misadventures that made them late for dinner, but always ended with a good laugh. Todd was no stranger to injury as a child- he often found himself in difficult situations but always managed to wriggle free.
After graduating from Skyline High School in 1979, Todd prepared for, and served, an honorable full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Finland Helsinki mission. Though the nights were cold and doors not always open, Todd developed a spirit of "Loppuun Asti" (to the end) that would endure with him through the remainder of his life. Upon completion of his mission in 1982, Todd attended the University of Utah where he graduated with a degree in Political Science in 1986. He then began a fruitful career in corporate real estate and title- working longest for Backman Stewart Title and then moving on to working for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a Title Closing Officer for the Church's real estate department. His expertise and know-how was crucial to his team and he was a respected colleague with connections all over the world.
In 1991, after months of cultivating a friendship, Todd finally asked Maren Hewlett Christensen out on a date. Todd was enthralled by Maren's beauty and her adventurous, fun-loving spirit, and spiritual strength. They courted and were married August 30th, 1991, for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Utah temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After many struggles in childbearing, Todd was blessed to be the father of two children- a boy and a girl. Todd and Maren enjoyed taking trips to their family's cabins in the Uinta Mountains, Bear Lake, Yellowstone, Mt Rushmore, Disneyland, Durango, CO, and San Francisco. There was never a dull moment with dad in all the adventures we had.
While the adventures were memorable and important, Todd's example shone most brilliantly as he served faithfully in many capacities in his church responsibilities. He served faithfully in Elder's Quorum presidencies, multiple Bishoprics, as a High Councilor, and a Stake Executive Secretary. He always did what was needed of him and diligently carried out every responsibility with exactness. Todd's true passion in church service was serving the youth. As a Ward and then Stake Young Men's president, Todd was able to pinpoint each young man's needs and faithfully ministered to EVERY member of his auxiliary. Young men felt loved and wanted when Todd was around.
An avid outdoorsman, Todd loved boating and fishing with his family. He enjoyed sitting on the lake while the family would fish with a new book in his hand and an ice-cold Coca Cola or Black Cherry Shasta in the other. Todd was a voracious reader and loved reading history books. His love for the universe was manifested by his diligent study of astronomy alongside the standard works of scripture to have a complete picture of how the universe functions. He also enjoyed stamp collecting and had an impressive collection. His favorite movies to watch on sick days were The Hunt for Red October and Disney's animated Cinderella. Among Todd's greatest joys in life was supporting his children, his nieces, and his nephews in whatever activities they participated in- musicals, recitals, concerts, rugby matches, and soccer, baseball, and football games. He was often praised by his nieces and nephews for his quick wit and insightful contributions whenever they had a chance to chat with him.
Todd is survived by his wife and loving companion, Maren C Evans, along with their children: David (Autumn) Evans and Elsie (James) Woodard. He is also survived by three grandchildren who adored him- Christopher Todd, Adélaïde Sofia, and Riley Maren Evans- and 3 grand puppies- Athena, Atlas, and Vanitas. He is also survived by his 4 sisters- Marian (Craig), Elizabeth, Jonnalee (Rod), and Diane (Mark) - along with his in-laws- William, Wendy (Stephen), Matthew, and Michael (Valerie). He was adored by his 32 living nieces and nephews and 25 great nieces and nephews. Todd was preceded in death by his parents- Richard Oakey and Beverly Fern Evans-, his mother and father in law- Marlene and William L "Budge" Christensen-, his brothers- Douglas and Brian, and a niece- Leah.
The Evans family extends warm thanks to the physicians and care givers from Intermountain Healthcare. IHC Hospice staff- Lexi for her loving care, Tina for her attentiveness, and Gretchen for her support. And his physicians- Bernard Liang and most especially Kathleen McKee with IHC Neurology.
Services will be held at the LDS chapel at 6770 S 500 E Midvale, UT 84047. The family will host a visitation Friday, May 31st, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be Saturday, June 1st, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with a visitation from 9:45 am to 10:45 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation, The Moran Eye Center, or The General Missionary fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
