David Gilbert

David Gilbert, age 86, passed away on January 12, 2026. He was born on October 10, 1939, and lived a life centered on family, dedication, and simple joys. David was the devoted husband of Maureen, the love of his life, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Together they built a loving family and a lifetime of cherished memories. He was a proud and loving father to Tom (Maria) Gilbert and Lori (Marty) Martin. David took great pride in his role as a grandfather to Mark (Jessica), Marissa (Matt), and Andy (Devon), and as a great-grandfather to Raelynn, Aubree, Lucas, Charlie, Isabella, and Gianna, each of whom brought him immense joy. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Mark Gilbert, whom he carried forever in his heart. David proudly served his country as a United States Air Force Veteran. Following his service, he dedicated 30 years of hard work to General Motors, retiring after a long and faithful career. He was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, where he valued faith, service, and fraternity. In his free time, David enjoyed boating, family vacations, western movies, and country music, but nothing brought him more happiness than golf, a passion he loved deeply and enjoyed sharing with others. David will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence, and deep love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, service, and treasured memories that will live on in all who knew and loved him. Visitation will take place at the Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home 8459 Hall Rd. (3Blks E. of Van Dyke), Utica on Thursday (January 15th) from 2pm - 8pm. Funeral Mass will take place the following day, Friday (January 16th), at St. Kieran Catholic Church 53600 Mound Rd, Shelby Twp, 48316. He will lie instate at 9:30am until the time of Mass at 10am. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in David's honor.
