David Lee Grace, Sr., otherwise known as 'Big David' or 'Diamond Dave', died on April 22nd, 2025, at the age of 66. He was born in Galveston, TX on July 1st, 1958. He is preceded in death by parents George Henry Grace, Lily Mae Grace and daughter Angela Dawn Grace. He is survived in death by his son, David Lee Grace, Jr., brother George Grace and his wife Kathy Grace, life companion Karen Bates, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews & grandchildren.
They lived and grew up in Galveston, TX until he graduated from Ball High, then resided in Santa Fe, TX with then wife, Sharon Grace and their two children David and Angela Grace, for many years until their departure, then again moved back to Galveston, TX in the early 90's with life companion and girlfriend Karen Bates.
As a young man, he loved to hunt and fish with his childhood friends, brother George, friends he made in the music scene and his family. He also played in numerous bands and family bands his entire life. He was known as one of the most talented musicians wherever he was heard.
He was a well renowned singer, song writer, poet & steel guitarist. He was known in the music scene as 'the man who can play anything with strings' & was nicknamed Diamond Dave for the style he portrayed as a musician, & the passion he brought to the stage.
He was an employee as a Sergeant in the Galveston County Sherriff's office and worked the skills division for over 25 years until his retirement.
He enjoyed spending time at his lake house in Liberty, TX as well as taking early morning walks along the sea wall with his dogs, post retirement.
He also loved hearing and listening about his son's music career and giving advice where he could in that area, as well as listening and hearing songs his son has written and recorded.
He was a man who fought many internal battles but was loved and respected by everyone who he encountered. It was known that he was a great man in any circle he traveled in.
In lieu of flowers per the family's request, donations be made to Galveston Island Humane Society.
There will be a celebration of life Thursday, May 1st, 2025 that will be held at The Playground Patio Bar & Grill in Galveston, TX at 7pm.

It will be open to the family and friends, as well as anyone else who would like to pay their respects.
