David Grant Hammond, 79, of Jay, OK, passed away on April 21, 2025, in Jay, Oklahoma. He was born on April 15, 1946, in Grundy County, Missouri, to Cecil Hammond and Ruby Ellis Hammond.
David was baptized by Mike Kingfisher on November 8, 2009. He loved fishing, hunting, bowling and playing cards. He was kind-hearted and generous, always willing to help others out. David enlisted in the Army on May 19, 1971. He was discharged for a family emergency but was immediately placed in the National Guard. He retired from the National Guard on April 15, 2006, after being injured on tour. Following his military service, David worked for GSA as manager of their cars, and also in construction as a cement-layer. David married Debbie Dunlap Hammond on September 3, 2024. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Hammond and Ruby Ellis Hammond; and his son, John Lynn Hammond.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Dunlap Hammond of the home; children, Billy Jo Horn, David Grant Hammond II, Mark Hammond, and Chrystal Hammond; stepdaughter, Chiquita Susan Smith; sister, Jeanette Standefer; eleven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.
David's Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, 11:00am, May 24, 2025 at Southside Church of Christ, 1506 S. Main St, Jay, OK 74346 with Mr. Craig Richardson officiating. David's service will conclude at the church.
David will be interred in Fayetteville National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Arrangements are entrusted to Lawson's Funeral Homes & Cremation Services Chapel, 311 W. Gray St., Jay, OK 74346 with Shaunda J. Lawson, 3rd Generation Owner/Funeral Director and Staff.
