David Wayne Hancock of Georgetown, SC passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024. David was born in Fayetteville, NC at the military base to Shirley Jean Priest and Everett Wayne Hancock, Jr.
David was a happy energetic boy who loved to work and play on his grandparents' farm in Tar Heel, NC. That is where his love of driving and riding anything on wheels was born. While growing up in Dublin, NC, David rode and raced motorcross for many of his formative years.
He was a very talented and popular rider in the AMA circuit and traveled to many local tournaments in the Carolinas and national tournaments in Florida and around the southeastern U.S.
After graduating from East Bladen High School, David attended and graduated from Bladen Community College with a degree in welding and blue print reading. He traveled and worked on
many skyscrapers, welding the high beams, including the Bank of America and One First Union buildings in Charlotte, NC. He would scale the steel skeletons and deftly walk the narrow
beams, 800 feet above the streets. He was a daredevil on the high beams and the dirt tracks.
David was a very proud father to his two sons, Kyle and Trevor. He loved coaching Kyle in baseball and sharing his love of music and movies with Trevor and Kyle. Most recently, David was an assistant manager at Sonshine Recovery Ministries in Georgetown.
We would like to recognize Dr. Tim Carter and Ryan Rogers for all the work and love they pour into this mission for men and women. We would also like to thank pastor Shawn Norton of
Celebrate Recovery and all the wonderful ministers, prophets, and members of Beach Church that open their hearts and doors to recovering addicts over and over again. Special thanks to David's friend and sponsor, Gary.
We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Grand Strand Medical Center for their loving care for David and his family over the past two weeks. David is survived by his two sons, Trevor Ryan of Orrum, NC and David Kyle of Bladenboro, NC; Kyle's wife Savannah of Bladenboro, NC; granddaughter Maddalynn Jane Dowless of Bladenboro. He is also survived by two sisters, Deborah Hancock McNeill of Charlotte and Deneen Hancock White of Concord, NC; Deneen's husband Merritt White; nieces: Sarah McNeill and husband Daniel Armstrong of Denver Colorado; Olivia White of Concord; nephews: James White of Concord, Hamp McNeill of Charlotte; Garrison White of Charlotte; Rhett and Gavin White of Concord.
There will be a celebration of life for David on Saturday July 6 at 11AM in the Adventure Beach Building at Beach Church, 557 George Bishop Parkway, Myrtle Beach SC 29579. There will also
be a graveside service later that day at 5 PM at Grimes Cemetery located off Hwy 87 W between Dublin and Tar Heel.
