David Lane Huddleston

David Lane Huddleston, 71, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Greenville, SC, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, surrounded by love.
Born on July 17, 1954, in Pittsburgh, PA, David was the cherished son of the late Stanley Crane and Betty Lane Huddleston. He graduated from Kiski Prep in Pennsylvania and went on to earn a B.S. in Geology from Furman University, a place that would become central to his life and heart.
David made Greenville his home, where he met the love of his life, Marian. They were married in February 1980 at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church and shared 45 beautiful years together. He spent his entire career at Milliken & Company in the Automotive Division, traveling the world as their Marketing Director, and retired in 2018 after many rewarding years.
He was a man of many passions, finding peace and joy in the simple and enduring pleasures of life. He loved fly fishing the French Broad River with flies he had tied by hand, driving the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, cheering on Furman football, and building intricate model trains. A lifelong student of history, he found inspiration in the stories of the Colonial and Revolutionary eras as well as epic historical sagas. He especially loved watching sports, with college football Saturdays among his favorite days, often spent tending his Weber grill. Thanksgiving held a special place in his heart as a day filled with family, food, and the familiar sound of football on TV. The family's beach house at Litchfield Beach was his sanctuary, a place of rest and togetherness where countless memories were made over the years.
Faith was a cornerstone of David's life. He was a devoted member of both Greenville ARP Church and First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Sunday school president and teacher. His love for God was evident in his active involvement with Community Bible Study and Bible Study Fellowship, where he led and nurtured others in their spiritual journeys.
David's legacy lives on in the hearts of his family: his devoted wife Marian; his son David "Lane" Huddleston, Jr. and daughter-in-law Caroline of Greer, SC, and their sons David "Chip" Lane Huddleston III (12) and "Harrison" Craig Huddleston (9); and his son John "Briggs" Huddleston and daughter-in-law Grace Perry of Mount Pleasant, SC, and their son John "Heyward" Huddleston (3).
A memorial service to celebrate David's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the home of his mother-in-law, located at 250 Stone Lake Drive, Greenville, SC 29609. Visitation will follow the service from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the home.
