David Jacobs, 56, family-man, entrepreneur, adventurer and best friend to many, died suddenly on Dec 4th surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Dave grew up in Mill Valley with his younger sister Karen, his mother Susie and father Rick. He graduated from Tamalpais High School in 1986 where he played lacrosse and water polo. Summers were spent at Skylake Yosemite Camp where David developed a passion for the outdoors, Yosemite and the Sierras. Over the years, Dave introduced countless friends and many generations of their kids to the magic of Skylake. In high school, Dave developed his love of live music, often driving over the bridge to see the latest punk, ska and rock bands in the city.
Dave went on to University of California, Santa Barbara where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in 1991. It was at Isla Vista where Dave met many of his lifelong friends that would become the "Backwoods Crew". Dave was the Social Chairman at his fraternity, Sigma Chi, which required constantly coming up with entertaining activities, often involving wigs, gold chains and polyester leisure suits. Some of David's fondest memories were during his time abroad junior year doing Semester at Sea, when he was bitten by the travel bug. Dave visited over 40 countries, including countless surfing, snowboarding, and vacation adventures with his pals and family followed, most recently a family boat trip in Montenegro last summer.
Dave decided to come south to attend Law School at California Western School of Law, in San Diego, earning a Juris Doctorate degree in 1995. Of course, Dave met a new group in law school, many of whom became his close friends. For Dave, a stranger was just a potential new friend he had not gotten to know yet. The adventures continued.
Dave married his beautiful wife Julie 24 years ago in 2020 and they have 2 amazing children, Ryan and Lauren. The Jacobs family is a vibrant part of the Carmel Valley/Del Mar/Encinitas Communities in sports, music, and friendships. Their home is always open for friends to gather, listen to great music, and eat Dave's infamous fish tacos. Dave was known for his contagious smile, youthful energy, and his ability to both relate to and listen to people of all ages.
After law school, Dave worked in Public and Government Relations briefly before starting his own firm with two partners, Grant, Hinkle and Jacobs, focusing for 21 years on insurance and planning. In 2023, Dave made a major career shift to follow his passion for nutrition and food. Along with an old friend, Dave launched the US distribution of Revival Einkorn. The trademark enthusiasm and energy Dave brought to this new enterprise has had a huge impact positioning the company for future success.
Dave was always the entertainer, and around 2018, after a bunch of jam sessions, Dave was the energy behind the creation of new band with old friends called "Mr. Hand". Never to go halfway, the band booked gigs, and after 5+ years and over 30 gigs later, Mr. Hand has entertained Dave's friends with high-energy shows at the First Street Bar and the Encinitas VFW. The band also went into the studio and recorded 4 original tracks on Spotify.
Dave was also active in the local community serving on the board of directors for The Center for Community Solutions who provide prevention education and support for domestic violence survivors.
Dave lit up every room and surf line-up with his infectious 1,000-watt smile. He didn't have mean bone is his body nor a negative thing to say about anyone. Dave lifted everyone up and was truly a positive impact on the hundreds of people he touched. The world will be a smaller place without him.
He is survived by his wife Julie, children Ryan and Lauren, mother Susie, sister Karen Gibson (husband Terel) and nieces Maya and Aliza. Services will be on Friday, December 13, at 1:00 pm at El Camino Memorial Park 5600 Carol Canyon Rd, San Diego 92121.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to be made to: Center For Community Solutions

His infectious smile and his cool demeanor ...never said a bad word about anybody ... I'm in shock as i just saw him two weeks ago at the North County EPC which he ran ... why must the good guys die much too young ????

I just learned of David's passing this morning, and still can't believe the news. David was about the warmest, most energetic, most sincere, and classiest guy I've met in business. The last time we spoke I was learning all about his new business venture in food, and it was clear that David had such a passion for the work. Always a huge smile and great attitude. You will be missed David. Rest in Peace my friend.

Center for Community Solutions is saddened by the loss of Dave Jacobs, a beloved advisory board member, who also served as a board member during crucial growth years for our organization. He was the first male board president, helping to pave the way for an inspiring number of men now supporting our efforts every day. Dave had been a champion of our work since his board service first began in 2006. Our heavy hearts are lifted by the many memories we have of Dave as a passionate advocate for survivors and our mission. With all the seriousness of our vital support of survivors, Dave always balanced this with a true love of life and those around him.

Thank you, Dave, for your noble service, and you will always be in our hearts. We are sending warm and healing thoughts to Julie, Ryan, and Lauren and other loved ones during this difficult time.

Our love of music. We first met and shared a liking of Love and Rockets "No New Tale to Tell". Circa 87ยด. After an unforgettable and one of a kind Santa Barbara lifestyle we continued our friendship of surf and good times to San Diego. Dave will always be in my memories and heart. We killed it back then for sure!

I never had the good fortune of meeting David personally; but I have known his mother, Susie since grade school. If he is anything like his mom, he was indeed a remarkable and lovely human with so much more to give - not just to those he loved and those that loved him - but to the community in which he lived. I met David through my involvement with ProVisors here in San Diego. David was truly one of the few good guys that I had the privilege to know in this life.

I extend my sincerest sympathies to his family and friends, of whom there were many. I don't think David ever met a stranger who didn't become a friend.

When I grow up someday, I want to be like my friend David Jacobs.
