Mr. David Donald Keener, of Highlands, NC, went home to heaven on August 18, 2025. He was a man of great faith and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
David was first and foremost a loving husband, father, and Pawpaw. Born February 12, 1958, to the late Juanita and Donald Keener, he lived his entire life in Highlands. He was preceded in death by his sister Sonja Stewart Gibson and brother Thomas Keener. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Brenda Houston Keener; two sons, Jeremy Keener (Katie) and Darin Keener (Jessica); three grandchildren Paisley, Lily, and Haddie; and his sister Angela Powell.
David was most well-known around Highlands for his 31 years as a mail carrier. It was evident from all the many friendships he made over the years that he had never met a stranger. He enjoyed collecting, working around his yard, and most of all, spending time playing with his granddaughters, making memories they will hold close forever.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Clear Creek Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Jim Kinard officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Highlands Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Spencer Chambers, Steve Houston, Will Chastain, Marc Gagne, and Jackson Gagne. Honorary Pallbearers will be Roger Lee Wilson, Allen James, Tommy James, and Boone Houston.
