Bill Luther Holbrooks, 88, of Franklin, NC, passed away August 18, 2025. He was born May 8, 1937, in Macon County to the late Jessie Sloan Holbrooks and Beedie Icenhower Holbrooks.
Mr. Holbrooks was a loving and giving person, who never met a stranger. He worked in mica mines for many years and retired, then worked as a handyman for people in the community. He made his own home brew and grew strawberries. Bill loved all animals; he loved to walk The Ridge and go down every morning and turn the chickens loose; and loved to fish. He remembered when Macon County had a lot of gravel and dirt roads, he loved horses, mules and wagons. Billy went to the beach for the first time when he was 84, (Myrtle Beach), it was his first time seeing the ocean. He took his socks and shoes off and collected seashells.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Fay Holbrooks Dowdle, Marie Holbrooks Mason, Bobby Holbrooks and Dillard Holbrooks.
He is survived by nieces and nephews, Judy Holbrooks Windsor, Tony Holbrooks, Tim Holbrooks, Mike Holbrooks, Rita Wey, Lisa Francisco, Mark Sanders, Linda Sanders, Barbara Hughes, Margaret Wilson, Wanda Davis, Doris Mitchell, Larry Dowdle and Edward Dowdle. Many other great nieces, nephews, cousins, family and close friends.
