It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Noelle Kerr, a beloved friend and community member, who left us on March 27, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. David was born on December 3, 1973, in Fairfield, Iowa, to Donald and Ida Kerr. He lived a simple life filled with joy, compassion, and a love for his community that touched countless lives.
From an early age, David developed a passion for various hobbies and interests that brought him great joy. He was a dedicated fan of the Des Moines Police Department and had a special fondness for the Ghostbusters franchise; you could often find him wearing his police badge and watch while watching Ghostbusters (the 1984 original, of course). David also found pleasure in simple delights, such as enjoying his morning coffee with honey, ensuring he shaved every morning, and wearing his Old Spice cologne.
David was deeply connected to his community. He attended Camp Sunnyside every summer, where he formed memories that he cherished throughout his life. As a member of the Mosaic HAPI club and Mosaic coffee club, David fostered connections with others that enriched his life and the lives of those around him. He was a devoted athlete, participating in the Special Olympics track and field events, bowling and Miracle League baseball where he showcased his competitive spirit and determination.
David's spirit of service extended beyond his personal interests. He often volunteered for the Knights of Columbus, participating in their Tootsie Roll drives to raise funds for those in need. He also dedicated his time to the Salvation Army, where he rang bells during the holiday season, spreading cheer and generosity.
David's life was a testament to the power of kindness, friendship, and community involvement. No one was a stranger long around him; "You know me? I'm David Kerr!" was a line he would say to anyone in earshot. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, the lives he touched, and the charitable endeavors he supported. David's laughter, spirit, and unwavering positivity will be dearly missed but remembered fondly.
David leaves behind many friends and family including a very special family, Steven, Payton, Mathis, Merek, Maya, and Margo McDonald. Their four legged friends, Murphy (dog) and Millie (cat), will especially miss David's infamous snuggles and loving attention.
As we bid farewell to David, let us carry forward his legacy of love, compassion for others, and community service. He leaves behind a world that is undoubtedly better for having known him.
A celebration of David's life will be held at a later date, where friends will gather to honor his memory and the remarkable impact he had on all of our lives.
