ABERDEEN - DAVID SOL KRISTOL, PhD, Professor Emeritus at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ, surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, to Isidore and Yetta (née Eisenberg) Kristol, David received his Bachelor of Science from Brooklyn College in 1958. While in college, he worked on one of the first dialysis machines at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital where he saved lives. He then received his Masters and PhD from New York University in organic chemistry, graduating in 1969.
Prior to retiring in 2007, he was a full professor and acting Dean at NJIT in Newark, NJ for 44 years. At NJIT, he created one of the first biomedical engineering programs and he was chairman of the department. He was also the pre-med advisor and the Jewish Students Advisor. A gifted professor, he loved his undergraduate and graduate students, and he had a positive impact on many lives.
In his spare time, David was President of the B'nai B'rith's Bayshore Lodge for several years, a member of Temple Shalom in Aberdeen, a member of the American Chemical Society, and a member of the Technion Institute of Technology in Israel. David was an avid bowler and an early computer enthusiast who created programs on his VIC 20 and Commodore 64 computers. He loved his Mets and Giants. David traveled to France, Amsterdam, and other countries for work and he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Beverly. David loved visiting Israel, and after he retired, he gave lectures on Jews in Science and Jews in Sports.
David is predeceased by his parents, Isidore and Yetta Kristol; and his brother, Samuel Kristol.
Surviving are his wife of almost 50 years, Beverly (née Newman) Kristol of Aberdeen; his son, Joshua Kristol and his wife, Kristin; his daughter, Rachel Kristol; his grandchildren, Maxwell and Oliver Kristol; his loving dogs Billy and Bailey; his sister, Phyllis Gaynor and her husband, Martin; and Daisy, Chester, and Luke.
Memorial contributions in honor of David may be made to the IDF or the Monmouth County SPCA.

My deepest condolences to Josh and his family. Dr. Kristol demonstrated a strong sense of family and caring that is seen in his son everyday. Our hearts are burdened by this passing but lifted to new heights because Dr. Kristol lived.
