David L. Lawrence

David Lloyd Lawrence, age 70 of LaFayette, passed away Friday, August 8, 2025, at 9:54 pm, Lima Memorial Health System Emergency Room.
He was born September 9, 1954, in Lima to Lloyd and Karen (Thompson) Lawrence. His father preceded him in death, and his mother survives in Lima. David was a 1972 graduate of Allen East High School. On September 15, 1973, he married Julia (Long) Lawrence, his high school sweetheart, who survives in LaFayette.
Survivors include their children: Michael (Jackie) Lawrence and Jennifer (Thomas) Ewing both of Lima; grandchildren: Landon Stahler, Jentzen Lawrence, Kanynn Lawrence, Lexenna Lee, Tate Ewing, Sarah (Tyler) Claus and Seth (Amanda) Ewing; and great-grandchildren, Carter & Claire Claus; and brothers, Steven (Darrilyn) Lawrence of New Haven, IN and Douglas (Michelee) Lawrence of Punta Gorda, FL; a sister-in-law, Brenda Lawrence of Lima, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
David had a positive impact on countless lives. He was a teacher at Lima Senior High School in Career Tech, retiring after 40 years. He was a coach for softball, girls basketball, wrestling, track, cross country and a football official for more than 40 years, umpired softball and officiated basketball. He loved The Ohio State Buckeyes, always carried a buckeye in his pocket to encourage the non-believers. He loved being near the water, the lakes, the beach, the ocean and the Pacific Highway. He was an active member of the Auglaize Bible Church, Harrod, where he was a deacon, treasurer, Sunday School teacher and song leader. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their sporting events. He was an everyday golfer, having acquired two holes-in-one.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Lawrence.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Eastside Chapel of Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 15, 2025, at Auglaize Bible Church, Harrod, with Pastor Ben Buzhardt officiating, where there will be visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in LaFayette Cemetery.
