David Marsh

David Bruce Marsh, born in Indianapolis, Ind. to Marvin Bruce and Katherine L. (Hershey) Marsh on Feb. 23, 1976, passed away on Sept. 28, 2023 in Shelbyville, Tenn.
Raised in Germantown, Ohio, David graduated from Valley View High School and then earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wright State University, which sparked a long career of caring for others. David was recognized as New Mexico Rural Nurse of the Year (2010) by the New Mexico Center for Nursing Excellence and was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honors Society. He also made hard choices in defense of what was right, assisting the FBI to help convict a prolific child predator working as a pediatrician on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
David was known for a unique brand of humor that made even the most stoic in the room laugh out loud. He loved good conversation, learning new things, cooking, gardening, southern gospel and animals of all kinds, especially his loyal dachshund, Cash. He lived with a type of abandon that meant he packed more in his 47 years than many with double the time. Sometimes his choices worked out; sometimes they didn't, but he was at least brave enough to keep trying the unconventional.
Wonderfully authentic and beautifully flawed, David knew it was by grace alone that Jesus often chose him to walk in dark places alongside those who felt sick, marginalized, overlooked, vulnerable, hurt, or who perhaps simply needed a good laugh. To the end, David was compassionate and generous, even when he had nothing left to give.
He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Wendy Hamm and Katie (Scott) Blackburn; nieces, Olivia and Sophie Hamm; nephews, Griffin and Cooper Blackburn; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Marvin and Martha (Hensley) Marsh & Frank and Martha (Miller) Hershey. A memorial service will be held on October 13, 2023, 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 820 Central Ave, Carlisle, Ohio; visitors may call on the family at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Toby DePew and Rev. Kevin McGuire officiating.
