David DeForest McSpadden, 87, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born August 11, 1938, in Van Buren, Missouri, to Earl and Ethel Parkhill McSpadden. He and Gloria B. Runnels were married March 3, 1964.
David honorably served in the U.S. Army from October 11, 1962, to September 26, 1964, and was obligated as a reservist until October 10, 1968.
David spent his career at Florsheim Shoe Factory in Cape Girardeau, working as a master hand sewer. Upon the factory’s closing, he drove a shuttle bus for the Lutheran Home.
Recently, David and Gloria attended Connection Point Church in Jackson.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Gloria McSpadden of Jackson; son, David L. McSpadden (Kathi Alexander) of St. Louis; nephew, Bradley C. Busby of Puxico, Missouri; and Gloria’s siblings: Katie (late Dayton) Green; Lela (L.R.) Green; Larry H. Runnels; Jeff (late Sonita) Runnels, all of Jackson; and Gloria’s nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Frances Earlene Busby; a nephew, Brian L. Busby; Gloria’s parents, Dealing “D.D.” and Mildred Runnels; and Gloria’s brothers, Gary Runnels and Joe Runnels.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to service time, Friday, September 12. 2025, at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. The Rev. Jeff Woodard will conduct the funeral service at 1 p.m., at the funeral home, immediately followed by military honors. Interment will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a qualified veteran’s charity of your choice.
