David Michael Merullo

David Michael Merullo of Reading, MA died at the age of 73. He was the son of Leonard Richard and Mary Eugenia Merullo (Geggis). The youngest of four boys, he was brought up in a large house vibrant with sport and family.
David will always be remembered for his extraordinary early successes. He was Co-captain of the 1969 Reading Memorial High School championship football team and Captain of the 1970 championship baseball team. David went on to Rollins College on a baseball scholarship and played in the Cape Cod League where he was an all-star player in 1973. Inducted into the RMHS Hall of Fame in 2009, his yearbook recorded David's classmates' genuine admiration and affection for their 'most popular', 'most handsome' and 'most athletic' dear friend.
His aspirations to follow his father and eldest brother to a career in professional baseball were stymied by an injury in his senior year at Rollins. After college, Dave worked for Dunn & Bradstreet and other financial institutions.
Unfortunately, thereafter, struggles with mental health issues altered the course of his life.
He continued to follow sports intently, especially when it involved family and friends. Living in Reading, David made it possible for his parents to stay in their beloved home well into their 90's.
He is remembered by his brothers Len of Ridgefield, CT., Charles (Annabel) of London, England and Rick (Pam) of Essex, MA, and his nieces and nephews, Matt and Lisa, Sam and Chiara, and Sarah, He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Cathy.
