Henry Joseph "Joe" Merullo
Henry Joseph Merullo, age 87 of Rockland, known to family and friends as "Joe", passed away on January 15, 2025 after a period of declining health. Joe was born in Newton on June 3, 1937 to the late Enrico and Mary Merullo and grew up in Newton and East Boston. He later moved to Natick where he raised his family. He also lived in Waltham and Woburn. Joe was known for his sense of humor, love of cars, and passion for Italian food. Joe lost his wife of eleven years, MaryAnne, in January 2024.
Joe is survived by his three sons, John (Donna) of Shrewsbury; Joseph (Dorothy) of Framingham; and Jim (Amy) of Natick; three grandchildren, Devin Merullo and his partner Caro Gonzales of Dallas, Texas; Fiona Gronenthal and her husband Gavin of Studio City, California; and Nora Merullo of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by stepsons, Michael and Stephen Teebagy and their wives and children; sister Maryanne Buckley of Sebring, Florida; his nephew Paul of Woburn; brothers-in-law James and Anthony Megna; and sisters-in-law Frannie (Ron) Trott and Camille (Darrell) Hendsbee. He is also survived by his first wife and mother of his children, Ellen O'Shea of Natick.
Joe worked a series of jobs before being hired by Polaroid where he worked as a machinist. After several years of installing and maintaining equipment used to manufacture instant cameras and film, Polaroid provided Joe the opportunity to return to school and learn drafting. The latter half of his career at Polaroid was working as a Draftsman/Engineering Aide. Joe took early retirement from Polaroid and worked for a number of years at Hertz, where he got paid to drive cars all over greater Boston. Joe's hobbies included dancing (where he met MaryAnne), watching old movies, and just "puttering" in his workshop. He also played golf badly (by his own admission) in his younger years, and enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool.
In addition to his parents and his wife MaryAnne, Joe is predeceased by two sisters, Carmella and Barbara, and his second wife Joan.
Visiting hours will be held at the Sullivan Funeral Home in Rockland on Saturday, February 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral home service at 11:00 a.m. and a burial at Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
Joe's family would like to thank their extended family and friends for all of their support over the past years, and especially their support since the loss of MaryAnne.
Please share any memories you have of Joe on the funeral home's website.
