David Guy Moore, Sr. went to be with our Lord after tragically being killed in a motor vehicle crash on Monday, October 14, 2024. He was born on June 1, 1944, in Canton to Isabel and Guy Moore, Jr. He graduated from Rootstown High School in 1962 and met the love of his life, Phyllis "Gene" (Griggy) in May 1963. They were married on July 11, 1964, until her death on October 31, 2015.
David began his welding career at a very young age, and as a young father and husband, he worked for his dad who owned Rootstown Welding and Fabricating on Karry Drive in Rootstown. Eventually he worked at General Tire in Akron and later became employed at General Motors in Lordstown for 34 years as a maintenance welder. He retired from GM in 2006 and came out of retirement around 2010 to work for Wise Chevrolet in Randolph. In November 2014, he became a full-time driver for Sarchione Chevrolet in Randolph.
Being the best grandpa to his grandchildren along with loving his family, friends and community were his greatest passions. He'll fondly be remembered as a person full of energy and loved getting together for gatherings of all kinds including special Christmas parties, autumn hayrides on his tractor and wagon, attending sporting events and plays to support his grandchildren, showing his generosity and friendliness towards everyone he knew, telling jokes of all kinds, meeting up for coffee and a bite to eat at McDonalds or Wendy's with his friends on the weekends, and driving around the country roads in Portage County in his Chevy truck with his Uncle Ronnie. He also found great fun and joy each weekday in being employed alongside his many co-workers at Sarchione Chevrolet in Randolph up until the day he passed away.
He will be sadly missed by his two daughters Karry (Mike) McGrath of Rootstown and Kelly (Mark) Wucinich of Hartville; his son David, Jr. (Krissy) Moore of Rootstown; grandchildren Joshua and Matthew (Kennadee Lawson) McGrath, Jacob (Jessica), Gregory (Sarah Juncker), and Abigail Moore, Katelyn (Dakota) Christy, and Mark Jr. and Grace (Brady Seymour) Wucinich; great grandchildren Josephine Kate Moore and "soon to be born" Cash Matthew Christy; sister Judy Common of Rootstown; brother Greg (Brenda) Moore of Mount Pleasant, GA; uncles Ronald Moore of Randolph, OH and Jerry King of Rootstown, OH; aunt Shirley Riemenschneider of Rootstown; sisters-in-law JoAnn Knapp of Kent, Marilyn Briner of Florida, Sally Trautman of Brimfield, Nancy (Jerry) Knapp of Louisville, OH, Pati Callan of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Portia Griggy of Arizona; brother-in-law Chuck (Sheryl) Griggy of Bradenton, Florida, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Gene Moore; his parents Isabel and Guy Moore, Jr.; his grandson Michael Jude McGrath, Jr.; and brother-in-law David Common.
In honoring his wishes, David will be cremated, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 1:00PM at St. John Neumann Parish at St. Peter of the Fields Catholic Church, 3487 Old Forge Rd. Rootstown, OH 44272, with the Rev. Fr. Thomas P. Dyer as Celebrant. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00AM-1:00PM on Thursday at the church. Inurnment will take place in the summer of 2025 at St. Peter of the Fields Cemetery.
Special thanks to the families and friends who have offered condolences and support, sent flowers, memory items, meals, desserts and cards during this time of great sadness and loss. Thank you to the Rootstown Fire Company and surrounding fire departments, University Hospitals Portage Medical Center Emergency Room Department, and especially thanks to all the first responders on the scene of this senseless crash.
