David Keith Nimmo, longtime resident of Lake St. Croix Beach, MN, died from injuries sustained in a bicycle accident on May 17, 2024 at the age of 64.
He is survived by his sisters Jean (Thomas) Rosenthal, Anne Nimmo, and Susan Palm; nephews, David, Michael, and Aaron; niece, Kate; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Margaret Nimmo.
David was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and grew up in Afton. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1977, and then attended the University of Minnesota and Control Data Institute before accepting a computer programming job at 3M Company. He retired early from 3M at age 40. Finding retirement boring, David joined the Lower St. Croix Valley Fire Department, where he served as both a firefighter and EMT. David treasured his time as "Fireman Dave," inspiring him to launch a second career as a medical lab technician. After earning his degree, he was employed by Allina Health at its clinic in Cottage Grove, where he was proud that patients asked for him, and he adored his co-workers.
David's favorite pastimes included boating and camping, particularly with his cousin Brian. David also enjoyed ATV backcountry trips in Utah and Idaho. Venturing farther afield, David had a keen interest in international travel, most recently having captained his family's boat on the River Shannon in Ireland. Closer to home, David reveled in his meticulously planned and beautiful new home.
David took pleasure in the company of friends, family, co-workers, roommates, classmates, and neighbors, fostering relationships that spanned the decades of his life. He will be remembered for his easy-going good nature, quick wit, and the fun he brought to every gathering.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at O'Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S 11th Street Hudson, WI 54016 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. A short service of remembrance will begin at 1:00 p.m.
