Beloved husband, father, and brother, David L. Payne fell asleep in death after a long illness on July 20, 2025 at home with his family around him.
David was born in Savannah, Georgia on April 20, 1947 and was raised in Savannah and Bloomingdale for most of his life. He was preceded in death by his adopted parents, Joe Payne and Emma Howard Payne, his brother, Ronald "Ronnie" Payne, and his biological mother, Burch Lowe Suthard. He spent 20 years in the Air Force and after retirement worked many different jobs but mainly in the trucking industry by driving and dispatching. He loved his family and would do whatever it took to provide for them, even working multiple jobs. He also loved sports, mainly baseball and football, and even umpired for years. He loved to garden and loved anything to eat with tomatoes in it. He looked forward to the day when pain will be no more Rev. 21:4.
He leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Sandy Payne; children, Angie Holcombe (Craig B.-deceased), Amy Kinard, Jason Payne, and step-daughter, Kellie Lindsey; sisters, Janet Leggett, Ann Coleman and June Cutshall; brothers, Jonathan Suthard and James "Bo" Payne; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
