David Elliot Philbrick, 59, of Duxbury, MA, passed away on November 19, 2024, after a short but hard-fought battle with leukemia.
Dave was born and raised in Sidney, Maine, the son of the late Florence and Ray Philbrick. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Elaine, and his two children, Sydney (20) and Adrian (19). He is also survived by his three sisters, Brenda, Sharon, and Bernadette; his sister RaeAnn predeceased him. He leaves behind an extended grieving family including his three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and ten nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Colby College, Dave joined the Navy as a lieutenant in the Supply Corp., where he served in the Red Sea during the entirety of the First Gulf War. He received his MBA from Babson College and went on to work at EY as an Executive Director in the Corporate Finance Division, specializing in business valuation. But his favorite job was after he retired, working for Duxbury Conservation, creating and maintaining the town trails. For him his life had come full circle, as he and his father had spent many hours in the Maine woods chopping 20 cords of wood each summer.
Dave loved to laugh and was always ready with a joke. He was highly intelligent, intellectually curious, scrupulously honest, and extremely hard-working. Above all, he will be remembered as a family man who was wholly devoted to his wife and children. He and Elaine met each other on his 18th birthday and were inseparable thereafter. They were best friends and the loves of each other's lives. He was very involved with coaching his children in baseball and softball, but he equally enjoyed just driving around on errands with his daughter, Sydney, and doing yard work with his son, Adrian.
He loved to travel, ski with his family, and dine at restaurants both locally and internationally. Dave was an avid watcher of Star Trek and had an encyclopedic knowledge of classic TV shows. Late at night, he could often be found in front of the TV with a bowl of popcorn that he'd be happy to share.
Words cannot express how deeply Dave will be missed by his family, friends, and everyone who knew him. While he has taken parts of our hearts with him, he has given us all such unforgettable memories of his love that he will be with us always. We thank everyone who has been part of Dave's life and enriched it so immensely.
