David W. Rahauser, Esq., 76, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 30, 1949, in Pittsburgh, PA he was the son of the late Dr. David M. Rahauser and Janet Cunningham Rahauser.
He was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, PA with the Class of 1967. Dave then went on to obtain his Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin from Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA in 1971. While at Dickinson, he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and a member of the men’s basketball team. He taught Latin and American History from 1971 until 1974 for the Cumberland Valley School District. He graduated from the John Marshall School of Law, Chicago, IL with his Juris Doctorate in 1977 and became licensed to practice in Pennsylvania. He returned to Pennsylvania in 1977 where he has resided and practiced ever since. Dave was a prosecutor at the Franklin County District Attorney’s office from 1979 until 2016. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Franklin County Bar Association. When not litigating, Dave also taught Latin at Faust Junior High School from 1989 until 2009.
Dave enjoyed golfing and attending the Kentucky Derby with friends. He was an avid fan of the Washington Capitals. He loved to travel, visiting monuments and museums. No matter where he went, he could always be found reading a book. Dave was a passionate music lover who enjoyed listening to many different bands and genres. He was exceptionally proud of his son’s accomplishments and very proud to support his ambitions. Dave’s greatest passion in life was spending time with his wife and son, along with teaching and helping others. He thoughtfully shared his knowledge and offered support to those around him, making a meaningful difference in many lives.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years Cassandra (Weiner) Rahauser; a son, Marcus W. Rahauser of Chambersburg, PA; two brothers, Charles (Elizabeth) Rahauser, of Chambersburg, PA, and Thomas (Susan) Rahauser, of Ashville, NY; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 19, 2026, in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. A memorial service and inurnment in Norland Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
