Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metcalf Mortuary - St. George on May 12, 2025.
David moved on from this earthly adventure and to the next on May 6, 2025 at the age of 85. He passed away at home in
St George, Utah surrounded by loving family. David was born September 5, 1939, to Henry and Jennie Schmidt, a humble farming family, in West Jordan, Utah.
Farm life was a perfect setting for a boy with endless curiosity and a whole lot of energy. He taught himself how to drive a tractor at the age of 6. To work he went! It was in this setting that he learned the attributes of hard work, dedication, loyalty, and a bit of mischief. However, farm life was to be only a short chapter in David's story.
David was always one to answer the call to adventure. At 16, he decided he ought to get his pilot's license. The farm had become too small for his restless spirit. Flying remained a part of his life for most of it.
David joined the Air Guard at the age of 17. After a short time in the service, he discovered he was not meant to be a military man. His Life List was far too big to commit to one profession.
David attended and graduated from Jordan High School. Not long after he graduated High School, he served an LDS mission in the Swiss-Austria Mission. It was on his mission that he put into action the attributes that farm life had taught him. David deeply loved his time as a missionary. He served with dedication and compassion. He loved the people he served and formed life-long relationships with some of those people.
David married Donna Dee Allred on May 16, 1969, in the Salt Lake Temple. She knew that the life ahead with David was not to be tame nor typical. He knew that she was the only woman that was qualified to be his partner. It was the perfect match. They both had enduring trust, respect, and love for one another. It is these characteristics of their marriage that allowed them to share a life together that is suited for storybooks and films. This May 16, 2025 will mark 56 years of an adventurous marriage together.
David cared deeply for people. He had such a big heart. He demonstrated that love often, and quietly. He blessed the lives of countless people; strangers, acquaintances, and loved ones. He so often helped lift the burdens that others carried. David's example of love-in-action will certainly continue to ripple out far beyond his direct influence.
David remained a dedicated and committed member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the duration of his life. He had an unwavering faith in the power of prayer and the Atonement of Jesus Christ. David included his Heavenly Father in the entirety of his life. David would often appeal to Him for guidance and strength in the times that required more of both.
David had a profound love for his family. Both his own family as well as his birth family. He was a stalwart leader for each. He gave so much of himself to bless the lives of his family. His influence and example will always be embraced by his family members and continue to play a role in their lives.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Jennie Schmidt; his sister and brother-in-law Rosemarie & Steve Chipman; and his grandchild Kailia Schmidt.
David is survived by his wife Donna and their seven children: Monika Zairi, South Jordan, Utah; Kristin Schmidt, West Jordan, Utah; Alisa Boulter (Tyler), West Point, Utah; Erik Schmidt (Jana),

As a way to honor and celebrate David, his family members will be wearing blue. It was David's favorite color, and he looked so good in it. We invite those attending the service to wear something Blue.
