Dave Smallwood was bigger than life. He was always ready for fun and enjoyed a party. He loved political discussions, reminiscing about the past, family dinners, carrying on about sports. But he was also the kindest person I've known. He was always ready to grab his toolbox and help Ruth and me with some house issue we were struggling with--from corroded pipes to underground oil tanks to fixing toilets. He was gracious and patient dealing with my inability to fix any problem. He will be sorely missed.

I will really miss my Uncle Dave, who was one of the kindest people you'd ever meet. I miss our countless Sunday family dinners where he could hold forth on topics as interesting as the value of misstruck coins from the US Mint, the UN chemical weapons security inspection process, and the Phillies bullpen -- all of which he was expert in.
Among other things, he taught me how to fish at the beach off the jersey shore, which is no easy feat. Here's a picture of him with one of his catches and one of me with mine. Well, actually...mine was not caught at the shore but as the one who taught me, he still gets credit for it! Keep reeling them in, Uncle Dave.

So many wonderful memories of my brother David! He walked me down the aisle at my wedding when my dad had passed away, loved my mom's family birthday parties #75 and #85, enjoyed our sibling couple dinners in Naples, Fl., our annual Christmas lunches at the William Penn Inn, and of course family vacations at Ocean City, NJ - and boy did he love his Hawaiian shirt! I'm so grateful for so many lasting memories to treasure always. I'll miss you, Dave!
