It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of David Joshua Sostman, who departed this life on June 3, 2025, at the age of 68, in the comfort of his cherished home in Olney, Maryland.
Born on December 5, 1956, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Rona Sostman and Sylvan E. Sostman, David lived a life rich with passion, conviction, and connection. He was a devoted son, a loving brother, a loyal friend, a soulful partner—and above all, he was a deeply proud and adoring father. David was known for his vibrant love of music, his unwavering sense of justice, and a wisdom that revealed itself in humor, warmth, and deep integrity. He is survived by his two beloved daughters, Julie Sostman and Debra Sostman; by Stacy Grant, the mother of his children; by his treasured partner, Melissa Decker; by his three sisters, Mara Brand, Lauren Nathan, and Abby House; and by countless friends who felt more like family. His love for them was the great rhythm of his life—a song he never stopped singing.
A funeral service to honor David’s life will be held on June 6 at 3:30 p.m. at Goldstein’s Rosenberg’s Funeral Directors Suburban North, 310 Second Street Pike, Southampton, PA 18966. Shiva will be observed Friday following services and Saturday starting at 12:30 PM at the home of Mara Brand. May David’s memory be a blessing, and may his spirit continue to echo in every story, every melody, and every act of kindness inspired by the love he so freely gave. Contributions in his memory may be made to Arbor Day Foundation, Sandy Springs Friends School or to a charity of donor's choice.
