David Dwight Steiner, 67, of Glendive, MT, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Glendive Medical Center. A Funeral Service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 2pm, Friday, October 24, 2025 with Father Francis Schreiber officiating. Rite of Committal will take place at Dawson Memorial Cemetery with a reception at the Glendive Moose Lodge to follow. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with arrangements.
David was born on November 9, 1957, in Glendive, Montana, the son of Jake and Frances Irene (Geiger) Steiner. He grew up in Glendive, attending Sacred Heart Catholic School through eighth grade and graduating from Dawson County High School with the Class of 1976.
A craftsman at heart, David worked alongside his father at Steiner's Construction Inc. for several years before continuing his career at Heritage Manor and Koch Furniture. His hands could skillfully repair, and his creativity was often put to good use designing interiors, restoring furniture, and helping others turn houses into homes.
Beyond his trade, David was a man of quiet generosity and good humor. Every Christmas season, he became a beloved local figure as Santa delighting children throughout many communities - spreading joy and magic in a way only he could. He was also a beloved wedding officiant, bringing warmth, humor, and heart to the ceremonies he led. An active member of the Friends of Makoshika and a proud participant in Fractured Follies, where his community spirit and sense of fun shone bright.
David's roots and relationships meant everything to him. He is survived by his siblings, Joyce (John) Hutchison of Glendive, Wayne (Nadine) Steiner of Wahpeton, ND, Nancy (Victor) Colbrese of Maple Grove, MN, and Leroy (Deanne) Steiner of Bismarck, ND, as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and Aunt Marlene. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Frances Steiner, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a nephew, Jacob Hutchison.
David's heritage was deeply German, his work ethic unwavering, and his kindness enduring. He will be remembered for his generosity, gift to gab, love of dancing and music, and the way he made Glendive a warmer place-especially at Christmastime.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Friends of Makoshika (PO Box 313, Glendive, Montana 59330 or online at www.FriendsOfMakoshika.org), to the Frontier Gateway Museum (201 State Street, Glendive MT 59330 or online at https://FrontierGatewayMuseum.com), or to a local organization of one's choice.
