David was born to Rufus Paul and Hattie Mae Sherlin Swanson. He had worked at Moog as a machine operator. David loved hunting, fishing, making knives, working on guns and wood working. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ed Swanson, Bettey Swanson, Herman Swanson, Emma Radford (Virgil) and Jimmy Swanson.
David is survived by his brothers, Carl Swanson (Elaine) of Marble, and Henry Swanson of Murphy; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephew, and great great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 pm, Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Tomotla Community Cemetery with Rev. Kenny White officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #96 Murphy, American Legion Post 532 Hayesville, VFW Post 6812, Hayesville, NC and the Marine Corp League Marble, NC. Pallbearers will be Corey Radford, Evan Radford, Joshua Trantham, Aaron Trantham, Daniel Swanson, Dwight Swanson, Travis Cook and Danny McClure.
Townson-Rose Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
