David Lemoine Tisch, 71, of Bonner Springs, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at his home.
David was a man who quietly, but keenly, appreciated the beauty in the world around him, always noticing details others frequently overlooked. The curve of a rock, the slant of a branch, the moment a song gives you goosebumps. He marveled at the possibilities of space and technology, he grinned at goofy jokes, he tapped his fingers in time to the music and could tell you how anything and everything was built and worked.
While he was not a world explorer, he was one to put deep roots into every community he joined. Born June 24, 1953, in Fulton, Missouri, he graduated from Fulton High School in 1971 and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the nearby Columbia College. As a boy and young man in Fulton and Columbia, respectively, he enjoyed the Boy Scouts, Fulton High School marching band, the First Christian Church of Fulton, and Cardinals baseball.
David was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Lightner of Columbia, Missouri in 2020, and is survived by his parents, Dr. Louis Lemoine Jr. and Nedra Tisch of Fulton, Missouri; his brother, Mark Tisch and his wife Debbie of Fulton, Missouri, and his youngest brother Brett Tisch and his wife Cindy of Oklahoma.
While at Columbia College, he met Monica Lewis, who he later married in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1976. Monica was the great love of his life, and their bond of 48 years was a beautiful example of devotion and partnership. Together, they built a life filled with love and lasting memories, moving to Parkville, Missouri and later Bonner Springs, Kansas. David and Monica found great joy together in Sci-fi conventions and medieval reenactments, caring for numerous pets, music concerts and arts and crafts, gardening and bonsai, but in daily life David found great comfort simply spending time at home with his family.
David was also a father who openly cherished his only daughter, leaving behind a legacy of true unconditional love and happy memories. David not only imparted upon her the values that shaped his own gentle and curious heart, but also his great sense of humor, his talent and love of music, and his passion for learning.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Monica Lewis Tisch, of the home, and his daughter, Katerina (Katie) Tisch and her husband, Matthew Hudson of Hicksville, New York.
His contributions extended far beyond his immediate family. He held numerous roles in food service, served as an Information Technology professional at the Kansas State Capitol building, and was a substitute teacher at multiple local school districts. David was a long-time and devoted member of the First Christian Church of Bonner Springs, serving as Deacon, Elder, Vacation Bible School teacher, and in recent years as Treasurer. David was most recently the President of the Kansas City Bonsai Society, where he had been a member for 30 years. Every summer since the late-1990s, you could find David playing trumpet with the Bonner Springs City Band, where he served as a musician and member of the band commission.
David is survived by countless other family members, friends, colleagues, and students whose lives he touched deeply.
A memorial service honoring his life will be held on Saturday, February 22nd at 1pm at the First Christian Church of Bonner Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Christian Church of Bonner Springs, in care of Alden-Harrington Funeral Home.
