David Turkowski

Groton-David Turkowski, beloved brother, son, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born in New London, David lived a life defined by authenticity, kindness, and a unique way of seeing the world. Living with special needs, he taught those around him profound lessons about patience, unconditional love, and the beauty of finding joy in life's simplest moments.
David found great happiness in following the Boston Red Sox. His favorite player was Carl Yastrzemski and he made frequent trips to Fenway Park. He also had a lifelong love for anything police-related and proudly enjoyed being called a "Junior Patrolman." Growing up in Groton, David formed close friendships with many members of the local police force. As part of this welcoming community, it was not uncommon for him to join patrol rides, which often ended with visits to Eastern Point Beach. He knew every officer by name and delighted in touring the police station.
Later in life, David resided at a Whole Life group home in Stratford There, the managers and staff became his immediate family. They went above and beyond to ensure his well-being. David and his family were deeply grateful for the compassion, care, and respect shown to him throughout his time there.
David is survived by his three brothers, Tom, John, Joe, and their families and by a devoted community of caregivers-including managers, staff, nurses, and doctors-at the Whole Life group home in Stratford. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Marilyn Turkowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for David on January 8, 2026 at 10 am, at Sacred Heart Church in Groton There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Whole Life, Inc. in New London.
David will be remembered not for his limitations, but for his humanity, his gentle presence, and the quiet yet powerful way he touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever held in our hearts.
