David M. Ward, Sr., affectionately known as Mike, passed away on February 2, 2025, in Kettering, Ohio, at the age of 46. He was born on January 25, 1979, in Dayton, Ohio, and was a lifelong resident of the area.
Mike was a dedicated family man and a pillar of strength for those around him. He graduated from Wayne High School in 1997 and went on to earn a degree in Accounting from Wright State University. His commitment to his education and career ultimately enabled him to provide tirelessly for his family, a source of great pride for him throughout his life.
A beloved husband, Mike is survived by his wife, Sarah L. Ward. He is also remembered fondly by his father, David J. Ward, and his sisters, Tabatha Ward-Bruner, along with her husband John Bruner, and Lynne Ward-Greenwell. In addition, he leaves behind his cherished nephews, Josh Bruner, Lucas Zornes, Dylan Zornes, and niece Peyton Zornes, along with nieces Kylie Greenwell and Marissa Greenwell. Mike is further survived by his mother-in-law Kimberly Zornes and her husband Scott Goodman, father-in-law Douglas Zornes, brother-in-law Gregory Zornes, and sister-in-law Ashley Centers, as well as numerous extended family members and dear friends.
Mike embraced life with a fierce spirit and a determination that defined his character. He was well-known for his stubbornness and his unwillingness to concede, qualities that were particularly evident during his battles with health challenges. Yet through it all, he remained a devoted follower of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and shared many joyful moments attending Cincinnati Reds games with Sarah. Fans of the New York Rangers and the Chicago Bears, Mike cherished each moment spent cheering for his teams.
Mike is predeceased by his beloved son, David M. Ward, Jr., his mother Donna Ward, and his brother-in-law Andrew Zornes. Their absence in his life was profoundly felt, but their memories remained ever close to his heart.
As we remember Mike, we celebrate his unwavering dedication to his family, the pride he took in his accomplishments, and the love and laughter he brought into the lives of those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will cherish the memories shared and the love felt during his time with them.
