Debra Haygood was born on September 8, 1957, in Camden, Arkansas. She was the youngest child born to V. C. Haygood and Gertie Mae Davis Haygood.
She accepted Christ at a young age and was a lifelong member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Harmony Grove High School.
Debra was an independent woman and mother. She possessed a strong work ethic while raising her three sons as a single mother, but able to provide for them well beyond the necessities of life, exceeding the equivalent of a two-parent home. She was a former employee of General Dynamics, Southern Pearl and Spectra.
She taught her sons, to respect others, as well as, self-respect. Her grandchildren were the apples of her eye. Whether a graduation or a game, she was there.
She always looked forward to visits from family and friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed sports, crossword puzzles, game shows, and daytime drama including Young and the Restless, Days of Our Lives, and One Life to Live.
Debra transitioned from this life on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 2:51 pm.
She leaves a lifetime of memories with her sons, DeBarius Haygood, Ronald (Jocelyn) Askew and Lamar (Carla) Askew all of Camden, AR; 10 grandchildren , as well as, three sisters, Gloria (Glen) Robinson, Levoyce Haygood, and Barbara Haygood all of Camden, AR; two brothers, Archie (Paula) Haygood of Gonzales, LA and Charles Haygood of Camden, AR. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
There will be no public visitation. The family will greet and receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. ONLY at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Camden. A celebration of her life will be shared at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Pastor James Scott, eulogist. The interment will be at Shady Grove Cemetery in Camden, Arkansas.
