Debby Stevens, age 66, passed away on February 26, 2024. She was born in Canton, Ohio. Raised in Mogadore, Ohio. She graduated from Kent State University in 1979. She worked for Nestle USA as a Senior Regulatory & Labeling Specialist in Regulatory Affairs. She devoted her life to her loving daughter Alana and husband Lawrence. She also loved sharing stories of her extended family as everyone meant so much to her. She was recently heartbroken by the passing of her mother and her dog Toby.
Debby was such a sports enthusiast. She was an avid follower of the sports that Alana participated in. She also enjoyed any team that LeBron James participated on. That became her favorite team. She referred to LeBron as “her Bron Bron” from the days that she was in the front row of Akron St. Vincent St. Mary’s watching his freshman year of basketball. Debby had numerous admirations for musical artists. Adele and Justin Timberlake topped her list. Debby was also a Historian. She had extensive knowledge of Egyptian history, the Titanic, and anything pertaining to 9/11. She also loved her television shows. She should’ve moonlighted as a detective, because she watched every episode of Law and Order and similar shows over the years. She enjoyed Star Trek, as she was a “Trekkie”. Her week wouldn’t be complete without American Idol and The Bachelor series.
Debby was preceded in death by her parents. Father, Howard Morckel; mother, Clara Morckel Zak; brother, Alan; and stepfather Edward Zak. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; daughter, Alana; brothers, Glenn (Ann) and Bruce (Kim). She loved her nieces, nephew, great nieces, great nephew, great great nieces, cousins, family, work colleagues, and friends. (Special mention. Debby was grandma to Alana’s cats Teddy and Trix. She loved those boys).
Family and friends will be received Friday, March 8th from 4 to 7pm and on Saturday, March 9th at 10 am at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44312. Funeral service will be held Saturday,March 9th at 11am with burial following at Greenwood Cemetery in Mogadore.
