Debra "Debbie" Sunday of Toms River passed away suddenly and far too soon on Thursday, September 26th at the young age of 59.
Born on March 13th, 1965, in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Annette and Edward Laskodi, Debbie spent her childhood in Cranford before setting roots in Toms River with her mother and her "Aunt Carole" Kaiser. She graduated from Toms River High School East (Class of 1983). Affectionately known as the "Cheese Queen," Debbie went on to have a career at Grand Union/Stop & Shop until she retired in 2010.
Debbie met her beloved husband, Alan, in 1985 and they shared 33 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Together, they were blessed with two beautiful children, Kirstyn (32) and Tyler (24), who were the light of their lives. Debbie always put others first and was a devoted wife, mother, and sister. Debbie is survived by her husband Alan, daughter Kirstyn, son Tyler, brother John Laskodi & his wife Ursula, and Aunt Carole, along with several cherished aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
From the aisles of Grand Union to the stands at Kirstyn and Tyler's sporting events, and between phone lines, the lives of all who encountered Debbie have been enriched by her kindness, compassion, and humor. Debbie loved nothing more than spending time with her family and took pride in making her home a warm and welcoming space where all left feeling a part of it.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, October 5th, at the Island Heights United Methodist Church (111 Ocean Ave, Island Heights, NJ 08732), where Debbie & Alan got married and Kirstyn & Tyler were baptized. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm. Friends and family are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Debbie's honor to the IHUMC at: https://secure.myvanco.com/L-Z4HS/campaign/C-129DA
