Dee Young Obituary Young, Dee, age 94, died suddenly in her Minnetonka home on Sunday, June 29, 2025. Born the middle child of a family of five children in Texhoma, Oklahoma on October 31, 1930, Dee learned all about negotiation and respect at home; and also survived the dustbowl and the Great Depression.
In 1941 her family moved to Wichita, Kansas where she attended public schools and graduated from Wichita State University. Dee and her husband Ted moved with their young family to the Minneapolis area in 1965, where they designed and built the Wayzata home that Dee lived in for 56 years.
An executive at General Mills, Dee was the final Director of the Betty Crocker Kitchen Tours Program from 1970 through 1985. She was elected President of the National Guest Relations Association, and in 1982 became the chair of the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce Promotion and Tourism Committee.
In her retirement years, she pursued lifelong interests in continuing learning: writing, reading, book clubs, workshops, and volunteering as a teachers assistant at Kenwood Elementary School in Minneapolis.
Following the death of her husband Ted, Dee embraced the move from their home in Wayzata into an independent living apartment at Havenwood of Minnetonka, where she was a community leader, friend to all, and thrilled to have a little "me time" after 90 years of a wonderfully shared, family lifestyle.
Dee, lovingly referred to as DeeBelle by her family is survived by her children Carol, Jeff (Lisa), Diana (Roland), Julie (Bob); grandchildren Coleman (Emilie), Dillon (Kate), Avery (fianc Leland), Cooper, Nat, Lolo and Smack; and great grandchildren Andre and Isaiah.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., at Havenwood of Minnetonka. 17710 Old Excelsior Blvd., Minnetonka, MN 55345
