Born in Greenville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Broadus Henry and Mable Ballentine Blakely.
Denise was an exceptional athlete, excelling in softball and basketball. She was voted most athletic in high school. She had a love and compassion for animals. Her magnetic personality was evident in all of the friendships that she had over the years.
Denise is survived by sister Sandra Barbre; brothers, Dennis Blakely (Evalynn); Paul Grier, Jr.; nieces, Angela Grier, Erin Anders, and Michelle Sonefelt; nephews, Paul Grier, III, Michael Barbre, and Adam Blakely; special friends, Becky Smith, Penny Holcombe, and Kristie Johnson; and many great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Glenn "Geech" Blakely, and Steve Blakely; sister, Paulette Williens.
A visitation will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest. A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 10, 2023, 1:00 p.m., at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, https://donate.cancer.org.
